By Asier G. Morato
Welcome to Microbyte! My name is Asier, and this is my small, old-school blog. It’s filled with my adventures as an entrepreneur, developer, and tech aficionado.
When I was young, I wanted to become an archaeologist, but I changed my mind when I found out that it wasn’t as exciting as Indiana Jones made it seem. Since then, I’ve had many jobs, but not as many as Homer Simpson. I went to college at the University of the Basque Country, where I graduated in Journalism and Marketing. After a short internship at our local newspaper, I decided to switch to the dark side and join Hortelanos, a marketing agency. Then the COVID-19 pandemic turned my professional world upside down in 2020.
That year, I decided to pursue one of my lifelong dreams and started to learn how to code. I taught myself to program in Swift and SwiftUI, and if that wasn’t enough, I decided to create Chubby Apps with my co-founder Patricia Bedoya. A studio where we create software that doesn’t need an instruction manual. Apps with a cute design that improve people’s lives.
Since then, we’ve launched apps like FitWoody (an activity tracker without overwhelm) and Cori (a health coach for people with diabetes). These projects got us selected for the Apple Entrepreneur Camp acceleration program and Pfizer’s acceleration program in Madrid and Boston. We’re currently on our way to launching our third startup, so keep an eye on this blog.
And, why open a blog in 2024? Well, since the very first day I set foot on campus, I’ve been writing about all the things I’m passionate about. At first, it was mostly about Apple-related stuff, and over time it grew to cover other passions like stationery, video games, travel, food, and much more. Back then, I had another blog called El Imperdible (you can see a couple of articles here), and since it’s been a while, here we go again.
You can find me on Github, Threads, Mastodon and Twitter.
About Microbyte
This is a small, old-school blog written by a human on his laptop and published on WordPress. It may not sound like much in the era of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, but it’s filled with my adventures as an entrepreneur, developer, and tech aficionado. The design is the work of Patricia Bedoya.
This are the main sections:
- Code Chronicles: The adventure of a journalist turned into a software developer.
- The Workshop: A collection of my creative project and the process behind them.
- Startup Saga: Chronicles of my entrepreneurial adventures and the quest for innovation.
- Gizmodo Grove: A peaceful retreat filled with curious gadgets and other things that spark joy and wonder.
- Miscellanea: For those bits and bobs that don’t fit neatly into other categories.
I don’t have a regular schedule, so don’t forget to subscribe by email or RSS.
